The ICM-CSIC will host researchers from all over the world to promote international scientific collaboration

The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona has launched a program for visiting scholars that aims to promote international scientific collaboration. The initiative, funded by the Severo Ochoa Accreditation of Excellence, contemplates the stay, for up to two months, of globally recognized profiles.

The call, which aims to increase the visibility of the ICM-CSIC, is addressed to experts affiliated to non-Spanish institutions that carry out studies related to the ICM-CSIC research lines. In this way, it seeks to promote knowledge transfer, but also collaboration in high impact publications and the creation of multidisciplinary groups in conjunction with prestigious international centers.

The initiative, which is part of the center's strategic plan to promote its international projection, includes two types of visits: short visits, lasting up to one month, and long visits, which can last up to two months. During this period, the ICM-CSIC will be responsible for the visitors’ travel and living expenses.

The funding of the Severo Ochoa Accreditation of Excellence is intended to improve, among other things, the attraction of talent and visibility on an international scale, which can benefit greatly thanks to this type of program for hosting international profiles.

The ICM-CSIC was recognized with this distinctive in 2020, thus becoming the first Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence in the field of marine research. The award, which recognizes the excellence and scientific contributions of research centers on a national and international scale, their social and business impact, and their ability to attract talent, is valid for four years and involves funding of four million euros.
