CSIC Deputy President for Knowledge Transfer, Ana Castro, visits the ICM

Castro has visited the Institute within the framework of a workshop on blue economy in which the main companies of the sector in Catalonia have participated.

CSIC Deputy President of Knowledge Transfer, Ana Castro, has visited this week the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) within the celebration of a workshop on blue economy and has taken the opportunity to know first-hand the center’s organization, scientific activity, research lines and transfer and dissemination activities.

The center’s direction has expressed Deputy President the ICM's will to continue carrying out a science of excellence that incorporates social commitment through initiatives such as the  Barcelona Mar de Ciència project, which aims to become a shared space for the transfer, participation and dissemination of marine knowledge.

"The visit of Ana Castro is a good opportunity to explain first-hand the center's commitment to promote knowledge transfer to companies and administrations, through innovative collaborative initiatives such as ICATMAR," said Valentí Sallarès, the ICM’s Director.

Castro was in charge of inaugurating the "Marketplace of scientific-technological opportunities and blue economy", a workshop that took place this week at the ICM and whose organization has also involved the agency for the competitiveness of the Generalitat de Catalunya, ACCIÓ, and the economic development agency Barcelona Activa.

During the event, which was attended by more than a hundred people, the main challenges of innovation posed by the blue economy were presented by experts, companies and leading organizations in this field, such as Safe Sea, Bzeos, Amar81, Seabots, Iqua Robotics, Lobelia Earth, Zyosh, la Catalan Water Partnership, GoJelly, Elyse o X1 Wind.

In addition, current and future European funding opportunities were explained, as well as business opportunities and scientific-technological challenges in the blue economy. Finally, the scientific and technological solutions currently available were presented.

"Everyone left the meeting very satisfied and we hope that in this way we have contributed to the extent of our possibilities to position the ICM a little better in the local Blue Economy ecosystem," expressed Francesc Piferrer, the ICM’s Deputy Director of Knowledge Transfer.
