I am a senior researcher at ICM interested in the dynamics of marine microbes and plankton, especially from a biogeochemical perspective. I have worked on the effects of temperature and turbulence on plankton, protistan grazing, the dynamics of nutrients in coastal areas and the effects of atmospheric deposition in marine systems. I have developed laboratory systems to study plankton under controlled turbulent conditions. I am also working on climate change effects on marine production, microplastics in relation to biogenic particles in the ocean, and on effects of inland water use on coastal areas. In recent years my studies have an additional focus on the link between ocean "health" and human health in the framework of the One Health concept.
