The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) is seeking outstanding established researchers willing to continue their career in Barcelona and apply for an ATRAE Senior Call position.
The Spanish national funding agency for research (AEI) is planning to launch the second edition of the program ATRAE in June 2024:
- ATRAE aims to facilitate the incorporation of senior outstantding researchers (R4), internationally recognized and who have recently developed a significant period of their professional activity abroad.
- Enables the initiation or consolidation of a research line through the funding of a R&D&I project led by the Principal Investigator (PI).
- Facilitates the adaptation and renovation of spaces, laboratories, and the improvement of necessary equipment for the project execution.
This program offers around 30 grants of 1 million € each with a duration of 3-4 years. The minimum annual gross salary will be 80.000€ (compensation increase conmensurate to research experience) and the grant implies a permanent position at ICM.

Requirements and application process
- Candidates must have earned their PhD before the 01/01/2017 and must have a professional affiliation with foreign research institutions of at least 5 years between 01/01/2017 and the start of the application submission.
- Only one pre-application per PI.
- Interested candidates need to have their Expression of Interest (EoI) pre-selected by the Scientifici Strategy Committee of the ICM.
- Interested candidates should identify an ICM staff researcher as endorser of their candidacy. The endorser person will submit the EoI to the relevant head of department before May 10th 2024. The EoI will include a detailed CV and a cover letter.
- The results of the pre-selection of the Scientific Strategy Committee of ICM, will be communicated as soon as possible so that the selected candidates can carry out the necessary procedures for their application to the AEI before the deadline established in the call.
