The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) is the largest marine research centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It is also the first marine science centre to be accredited as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, a recognition to the institution’s leadership in the field of marine research in Spain and to its commitment to create social impact.

The role and the team
We are recruiting an enthusiastic and highly motivated professional as Internationalization and Science Diplomacy Officer at the ICM. The successful candidate will be integrated in the ICM’s Research Support Office (RSO), and will carry out the tasks in coordination with the team of the Talent Development and Work Environment and Project Management Units of the RSO and the Directorate Team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting ICM Internationalization and Science Diplomacy strategy.
Job description
The successful candidate will be involved in:
- Managing current institutional international projects, defining new collaboration strategies, and supporting the preparation of the corresponding national and international calls.
- Creating, maintaining and developing ICM relationships at both national and international levels through the coordination of joint meetings and the participation in relevant events.
- Reinforcing ICM position as key scientific advisor for the definition of policies at both national and international levels.
- Supporting and reinforcing ICM relationship with super-national entities such as IOC/UNESCO and EU among others.
- Supporting and reinforcing ICM relationship with national and regional administration such as Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico, Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona City Council, among others.
- Supporting ICM relationships with CSIC headquarters related to contracts with public administrations.
Requirements
Professional experience
Must Have:
- experience in similar positions
- good knowledge of the national and international research ecosystem
Education and training
- A degree in experimental or social sciences and proven experience in positions related to international affairs, knowledge transfer, or science diplomacy in academic organizations such as research centers, universities, etc.
Languages
- Fluent in English, Spanish and Catalan (both written and spoken)
Competences and IT skills
- Very good interpersonal communication, networking and team playing skills
- A well-organized person with attention to details
- Proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude.
- Proficient in basic IT skills (Excel, Power Point, Word, research management software, etc.)
The offer
We are offering a contract with the following conditions:
- Estimated annual gross salary: Salary will range between 30.000€ and 40.000€ commensurate with qualifications and experience, and consistent with CSIC pay scales.
- Working time: Full-time contract with flexible working hours and possibility of teleworking up to 3 days a week. Read more about work-life balance here.
