What we are looking for
We look for a highly-motivated individual with a background in sociology, experience working with individuals and different types of social groups and networks, and good knowledge and/or experience on the relation of people with natural environments. The worker will assess current initiatives of the empowerment of citizens interested in the restoration, protection and preservation of the marine environment, and will explore how to enhance and fortify these initiatives at the local to regional to European levels, contributing to the building and reinforcement of communities of practice.
A strong background in co-creative tasks is required. Basic knowledge and experience on the natural and marine environments, and the different types of relations of individuals and associations with these environments, will be highly valued. Experience with social media and some basic surveying techniques are also desirable. Proficiency in Spanish and English is mandatory, and good oral and written communication writing skills are also highly desirable.
Tasks
The worker will support the participation of ICM within a Horizon Europe, which is part of the Mission: Restore our Ocean, seas and waters by 2030. The worker will coordinate all ICM actions and activities aimed at empowering citizens to engage with the mission, through deepening and widening citizen engagement and by leveraging participatory innovations and ocean literacy. In particular, the worker will be responsible for a task aimed at creating and fortifying bottom-up citizen engagement, and supporting existing citizen networks that are connected with the oceans. It will imply working with several networks, at different levels of maturity, scale and geography, in order to develop methodologies and create a “community of practice”. The worker design and facilitate methods and tools on citizen engagement, testing and piloting established networks as well as supporting other starting networks.
Work conditions
This is a full-time job based in the ICM facilities, with a gross annual salary ranging between 28,000 and 33,000 €. The job is expected to start as early as September 1, 2022, conditioned to proper registration of the candidate in the CSIC Job Bank (Bolsa de Trabajo). The initial contract will be for a period of one year, but potentially renewable until at least the end of 2024.
Part of the work can be done through teleworking but generally the worker is expected to work onsite, both at the ICM offices and interacting with local communities. The worker must also have good availability to travel within Europe, when necessary, to participate both in the assessment of European networks and in the project meetings.
