Ahead of World Oceans Day, the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) of Barcelona and the Institute of Marine Research of Vigo (IIM) have launched the #AnhelDeMar campaign on social networks.

- The initiative encourages society to express on social networks what the ocean provides to it through a drawing, a poetry, a video or any other creative way.
The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) of Barcelona, together with the Institute of Marine Research (IIM) of Vigo and other marine research centres of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) commemorate World Oceans Day, which will take place on 8 June, with a campaign of wishes on social networks named #AnhelDeMar.
The initiative encourages society to express through a drawing, a poem, a video, a song or any other creative way what the ocean provides to it and how it would like to be in the future. Those participating in the campaign must publish their creations on social networks with the hashtags #AnheloDeMar (Spanish), #ArelaDeMar (Galician), #AnheldeMar (Catalan), #AnseioDeMar (Portuguese) or #ItsasIrrika (Basque).
Contributions can include personal experiences or promote collective actions, and each research center will use its wishes for different purposes. The ICM, for example, will publish a video including the wishes of various participants and will count on the collaboration of the Catalan artist known as ‘l’Últim Indi’, who will put on the music. For its part, the IIM will collaborate with artists and research staff by publishing their wishes on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles.
The Centre d'Estudis Avançats de Blanes (CEAB), the Institut Mediterrani d'Estudis Avançats (IMEDEA), the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia (ICMAN) also participate in the initiative.
In addition to this campaign, the ICM will participate in different activities that are being organized together with the Barcelona City Council to celebrate World Oceans Day. The program of these activities will be available from the first of June on a website that the consistory will enable especially for it.
The objective of these activities, among which we can find conferences, exhibitions, educational resources and online activities, is to bring marine research and knowledge of the oceans closer to the public, as well as to make known its current situation.
World Oceans Day is a United Nations (UN) initiative that takes place every 8 June since 2009 to recognize the importance of the oceans, raise awareness of the consequences that the human activity has on them and promote its sustainable management.
