The "Magnet, alliances for educational success" program develops innovative educational projects. It is promoted by the Jaume Bofill Foundation, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Barcelona, the Consortium of Education of Barcelona and the UAB Institute of Education Sciences.

The Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) participates again in the "Magnet" program, which was presented today in Barcelona. In this edition, the institute participates with the school Tanit, from Santa Coloma de Gramenet, with witch will develop a science project during the next four years.

Magnet promotes the alliance of an educational center with an institution of excellence in a specific field of knowledge (science, technology, art, audiovisual communication ...), which have an educational commitment to society, and have a great capacity to transfer innovation and knowledge. This alliance should allow the school to develop a high quality innovative educational project, that generates magnetism to become a reference in its territory, both for families and for teaching community.

Having the Institute of Marine Sciences as an ally will allow Tanit teachers to incorporate the knowledge of this center into scientific educational projects, from a global learning approach. Scientists and technicians from ICM-CSIC, among them biologists, oceanographers and geologists, will be involved in an educational project focused on the subject of marine ecosystems, and will put their technology, laboratories and research available for Tanit school. The program encourages students to learn to investigate, while stimulating motivation, interest, creativity, and power the development of all kinds of skills (think, do, communicate and feel).

The ICM-CSIC also participated in the previous edition of the Magnet program and has, in addition, a great experience in educational outreach, with programs such as "El mar a fondo", "Young oceanographers" and the ICM-Divulga website.
