During her brief tour of the facilities, Diana Morant has been able to meet some of the centre's research groups.
Diana Morant, the Minister of Science and Innovation has visited today the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) in Barcelona, taking advantage of her visit to the city to sign the cultural and scientific co-capitality agreement with the city council.
At the ICM, the minister has been received by the CSIC delegate in Catalonia, Lluís Calvo, the director of the Marine Technology Unit (UTM), Jordi Sorribas, and the director of the ICM, Josep Lluís Pelegrí, who has taken the opportunity to talk to Morant about the present, past and future of the Institute, as well as to explain her the projects in which the ICM has been involved recently.
Among them there is the Ocean Cities programme, an international network to promote sustainable ocean cities. The initiative is led by the ICM and the UTM, and has been selected by the United Nations to foster the goals of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
During her brief tour of the facilities, Diana Morant has been able to meet some of the centre's research groups, as well as their lines of research. Also, she has visited an exhibition paying tribute to the tenth anniversary of the death of the American biologist Lynn Margulis, and another that offers a tour of the planet's polar areas, the exposition "Una Mirada Polar", of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform POLARCSIC.
Morant's visit to the ICM ended with his participation in one of the workshops of the open days that are being held this week at the ICM.
