On December 14th, a Chinese delegation led by Professor JIANG Xingwei, director-general of the National Satellite Ocean Application Service (NSOAS, State Oceanic Administration of China), and Professor DONG Xiaolong, assistant director-general of the National Space Science Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSSC, Chinese Academy of Sciences) and director of the CAS Key Laboratory of Microwave Remote Sensing (MiRS), visited ICM.

The purpose of the visit was to establish a collaboration with ICM in the framework of the recently approved Chinese Ocean Salinity Mission (to be launched in 2019).
During the visit, Mr. ZHOU Wu, deputy chief of the CAL/VAL department, presented the NSOAS ocean satellite mission programme, Professor DONG Xiaolong gave an overview of the history of NSSC and its major role in designing and developing instrumentation onboard Chinese satellites. Finally, LIU Hao (NSSC), Chief System Designer of the Microwave Imager Combined Active-Passive (MICAP) for the Ocean Salinity Mission, gave an overview of the mission payload and in particular of the MICAP.
After brief presentations from ICM's director, Professor Albert Palanques, and the SMOS Barcelona Expert Centre (BEC) personnel, a discussion session on future collaborations took place. All members of the Chinese delegation participated in this discussion, including Mr. HUANG Lei, deputy chief designer of the ground system (NSOAS), ZHOU Wu, deputy chief of the CAL/VAL department (NSOAS), and Dr. YIN Xiaobin, Team Leader for the MICAP data processing (NSSC). During the discussion, the grounds were set for a fruitful collaboration framework regarding the MICAP data processing chain and its several applications.
ICM, and in particular BEC, would like to thank very much the Chinese delegation for their visit and their pro-active role in establishing this collaboration framework.
