The exhibition ‘BioMARató 2023: Beaches with Life’ is a visual representation of marine and coastal biodiversity registered during the BioMARató 2023. This event, which is held annually from May 1 to October 15, invites citizens to participate in collecting photographs and data on species present on the Catalan coasts through the citizen science platform MINKA.

Marine and environmental sciences, oceanography or polar exploration have traditionally been highly masculinized professional fields. In this environment, women were scientifically underestimated for years. With this exhibition we want to present various personal and professional aspects of Lynn Margulis, Ángeles Alvariño, Marta Estrada, Josefina Castellví, Rachel Carson and Sylvia Earle, women who have been pioneers in these fields, opening doors and also being powerful references for so many scientists, techniques and students.

"SeaSensations" is an interactive and immersive exhibition designed and developed by the association La Ciència Al Teu Món (LCATM) in collaboration with the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC).
This multisensory experience allows the public to explore the immensity and diversity of marine microorganisms, using scale models and everyday elements to better understand the invisible world that inhabits a drop of seawater.

Biodiversity is essential for the maintenance of life on our planet, just as the different parts of a car are all necessary for its operation. But we humans are accelerating the rate of extinction up to 1,000 times the natural rate, and we are destroying diversity that we do not even know!
