The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) is looking for a candidate for a predoctoral contract to join the Ecology of Marine Microbes (EMM) research group in the DIVAS project, a marine microbial ecology project designed to understand the changes in abundance and diversity of viral communities in a marine coastal system using a long temporal series of 20 years.
The candidate will use the temporal series at the Blanes Bay Microbial Observatory to identify seasonal and interannual patterns of viral abundance, viral diversity, and virus-host interactions. He/she will evaluate whether or not these temporal patterns depend on biotic and abiotic factors related with climate change. This PhD will use a varied and complementary set of techniques, ranging from flow cytometry, single cell genomics, -omic approaches on microbial communities, and bioinformatics.
