The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) is looking for a candidate for a predoctoral contract to join the Marine Biogeochemistry, Atmosphere nad Climate research group in the COLPLAI project: Characterization of dissolved Organic matter Leached from PLastics into seawater and its impact on mArine mIcrobes.
This project will study the chemical characteristics of dissolved organic matter released by plastics into water and the environmental conditions under which the release of compounds by the plastic is higher. It will also be studied the impact of these compounds on marine microbes and which bacteria are consuming them to see if they could be used in large-scale plastic biodegradation processes. To carry out these objectives, several laboratory experiments and eventual field trips will be carried out. This is an interdisciplinary project that combines marine chemistry and microbiology. The selected candidate will learn different techniques from both disciplines.
