I am post-doctoral researcher at the ICM-CSIC since January 2019, involved in a European project called PROMISE. In the project we aim to discover new chemical compounds from microeukaryotic communities of marine systems that can have a biomedical application. I am in charge of sample preparation and the analyis of data coming from metabarcoding, metagenomics and specially single-cell genomics. I worked with single-cell genomics data in my PhD, in which we provided new data to better understand the origins of animal multicellularity. For that, we sequenced the genomes of unicellular relatives of animals and compared them with animal genomic information in order to speculate which was the genetic tool-kit that predated the origins of animals. Thus, besides microbial ecology and the discovery of new compounds I am also very interested in evolution, protist diversity, taxonomy and genomics.
